The Hamilton Olympic Club 100th Anniversary Commemorative Book

The Hamilton Olympic Club, Canada’s oldest continuously operating track and field club, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2026. One of the main initiatives documenting its rich heritage was presented through a 100th Anniversary commemorative book. This book preserves and shares a century of sport history—its documents, photographs, and stories of the Hamilton Olympic Club over the past 100 years.

This project celebrates a long history and extensive legacy. For a century, the Club has contributed to the development of amateur sport locally, provincially, nationally, and internationally. Since its inception, it has served athletes throughout the Hamilton area and has been a significant contributor to the history of amateur sport in Canada.

Hamilton Olympic Club athletes, coaches and founders are presented throughout this archival book.

We are very proud of all our alumni who have built our history. Canadian Olympian Raymond Lewis, bronze medalist in the 4x400m relay at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, broke racial barriers and contributed to Canada’s evolving identity. One of the Club’s founders and first president, M. M. Robinson, played a key role in bringing the inaugural British Empire Games (now the Commonwealth Games) to Hamilton in 1930—an event that strengthened local pride, honoured volunteer contributions, and reinforced the importance of community-based sport across the country.

Through this project, the history of the Hamilton Olympic Club will remain a vibrant part of the community, enriching the sport heritage of Hamilton and Canadian amateur sport.

We Celebrate the Past; by presenting the rich and enduring history of the Hamilton Olympic Club and its legacy.

We Build for the Future; by using this opportunity to help the Club maintain its ability to provide quality programs that are accessible and inclusive for all members of our community.
