A Century of Track & Field Excellence in Hamilton
The Hamilton Olympic Club is Canada's oldest track and field club, founded in 1926 by a group of local businessmen. For 100 years, our volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organization has played a vital role in developing amateur sport in Hamilton and contributing to athletic excellence across Canada.
Since its inception, the Club has supported athletes of all ages throughout the Hamilton region, helping them grow from grassroots participation to elite competition. HOC athletes and founders have made their mark at every level — from OFSAA and national championships to the Pan American Games, Commonwealth Games, World Championships, and the Olympic Games.
We take great pride in the individuals who built our legacy. Canadian Olympian Raymond Lewis, bronze medalist in the 4x400m relay at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, broke racial barriers and contributed to Canada's evolving identity. One of the Club's founders and first president, M. M. Robinson, played a key role in bringing the inaugural British Empire Games (now the Commonwealth Games) to Hamilton in 1930—an event that strengthened local pride, honoured volunteer contributions, and reinforced the importance of community-based sport across the country.
A century later, the Hamilton Olympic Club remains committed to offering high-quality, inclusive, and accessible programs for athletes of all ages and abilities. Guided by dedicated volunteers and skilled coaches, we continue to foster excellence, community, and opportunity in track and field.
